Equestrian body protectors are a key safety item that we recommend every rider wears for both general riding and competing. Body protectors are designed to protect riders by absorbing high levels of energy created by falling off, being kicked or being stood on by a horse. British Eventing enforced new rules on safety standards for body protectors in 2011 so it is important to check your old body protector is up to date and certified to the level required for your chosen discipline. The foam used inside older styles of body protectors does have a tendency to become brittle when aged, resulting in a reduction in protection being offered, which is one of the reasons for updating the standard requirements for those wanting to compete at the higher levels.

We are also proud to stock the popular Air Jackets by Point Two. In both junior and adult sizes, the airbag is designed to be activated if the rider is separated from the horse. The airbag jacket will then inflate protecting the all-important areas of the body, the collar of the neck, ribs and coccyx. For our full range and advice on the Point Two jackets please do contact our friendly team at Unicorn Saddlery.
Here at Unicorn Saddlery we recommend that your body protector is professionally fitted to get the best fit, style and protection. To give you an idea of how we measure for a body protector we need the following measurements; Waist, chest, waist to waist (over shoulder) and back length.
BETA (British Equestrian Trade Association) recommends that you replace your body protector every three to five years and if you suffer a fall to check your body protector for any damage. Please note that body protectors do not offer spinal protection or prevent injuries involving severe torsion, flexion, extension or crushing of the body.
